It may not feel like you can’t fully recover from the recesses of emotional pain, but you can. The problem with overcoming emotional pain begins when it’s left inside the heart. The impact of pain silently gains leverage over your thinking process, which can turn into internal issues that manifest themselves in other relationships. The good news is that there’s hope in our Lord Jesus who’s able to help you overcome emotional pain. The Lord Jesus is able to revive anyone or anything.
Now, if a person who is actively pushing pass emotional pain, acting as if it doesn’t exist and that it doesn’t hurt emotionally; you are unknowingly leaving a door open for Satan to cause more damage. You’ve got to be careful of this, because the enemy’s goal is to try to make you weaker and weaker.
Haven’t you ever meant someone who needs a lot of attention? Most likely they’re dealing with insecurities from what the pain created in them through a relationship that hurt them. Or, have you ever meant someone who seems happy all the time in front of people, but when they’re away from those people, you experience a different person? There are lots of people who put on fronts for others, because they choose to hide the pain and not deal with it.
The Kind of Life God Wants for You
Living with emotional pain isn’t the kind of life God wants for you or planned for you. However, some have made it their norm. They don’t know how to effectively to get rid of emotional pain, so they live with it, making it normal. But, what they’re doing is creating a kind of life God doesn’t want them to live. You might say, “isn’t that okay, if that’s what they choose.” Resoundingly yes! However, you must be clear that the choice to live with pain rather than heal the pain is their choice, not God’s.
God told us in the Bible that He has a plan for us and it’s not one to defeat us. So, why accept painful circumstances? Wrong decisions can be changed the right way, according to the Word..
1 Corinthians 5:17 says in the AMP version: “Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life].”
I also like the way the NLT version renders this verse as well: “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
We must accept it and put into practice this new life we’ve been granted into in order to experience it. By faith, we live in Jesus Christ. It’s an awareness, a consciousness we must carry in our spirits in order to experience the glory of it manifesting in our lives. Christianity is relationship with God; it’s not a religion like some think. Jesus said in His Own Words in John 14:16: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” So, you see is a life that we’re born into through our Lord and Savior.
This why those who believe experience the supernatural and therefore have the ability to overcome pain and the power to stop the devil’s attacks against them. Christianity is power; it’s life and those that choose it have an advantage people in the world don’t.
Activating and Living Your New Life
Your experiences with betrayal and abuse don’t have to dictate or direct your life. At any moment, you can decide to change your life to live according to the plan and purpose God has for you and enjoy it to the fullest without painful memories. It’s all up to you. You’re only one decision away to activating your new life in Christ.
To help you on your healing journey, here are three things you must practice, according to the Bible, in order to begin the process of overcoming emotional pain and staying focused on God:
- Firstly, you must be ready to obey God; to do what God teaches us in the Word about living a life pleasing to Him, a Godly life, a righteous life, because God a is righteous God. (John 14:21)
- Secondly, you must be willing to let your old life and way of thinking go; it’s carnal. As a new creature in Christ, you have a new life. This means you have the ability to do what ordinary people in the world can’t do, because Jesus lives in you. God imparted righteousness into us through Christ when we were born again. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
- Thirdly, you must be willing to be a doer of the Word, not one who only hear it, but one who lives it. That means you must be willing to forgive. If you find that you’re having a hard time forgiving, it means you’re living a carnal life, not a Christian life. Don’t compare yourself to Christians who don’t obey God; evaluate yourself by the Word. (James 1:22)
Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.
Romans 8:5
